Program may include specific activities which promote literacy and numeracy , independence and social development.

Refer to ‘Continuity of Learning: A resource to support effective transition to school and school age care’ which has lots of strategies and ideas.

Hold school lunch box days eg get children to bring a lunch box for the week. Cook makes sandwiches, wraps them in cling wrap, staff place into lunch boxes and children practise unwrapping them

Organise some of last year’s preschoolers to come back and talk to this years’ pre-school children about school and the differences between school and preschool. Could happen throughout the term or in a single reunion.

If close to schools(s), organise walking excursion to and from school. Advise families in parent communication research shows children need to visit their new school as often as possible. They do not need to go in.
