However, services often have trouble with the <strong>Medical Communication Plan<\/strong> and the <strong>Medical Risk Minimisation Plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Let us teach you how to read the Regs and discover all the little hidden parts that can sometimes catch us out. When you\u2019re confident, you can then teach your staff and educators.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First step<\/strong> is to go through the relevant section of the Regs and find the subject or main idea of each section.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second step<\/strong> is to find all the verbs (action, doing words).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third step <\/strong>is to decide if there\u2019s a better verb to help you understand what\u2019s required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fourth step<\/strong> is to identify who is doing what.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<h1><a name=\"_Toc2859789\"><\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Division 3 of the Regs headed Medical Conditions Policy<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>90 Medical conditions policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(1) The medical conditions policy of the education and care service must set out practices in relation to the following\u2014<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject\/main idea: <\/strong>medical conditions policy<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verbs:<\/strong> set out practices<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Better verbs: <\/strong>a written description of practices<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who needs to do what?<\/strong> Nominated Supervisor must ensure this policy is written<\/p>\n<p>Work together in teams of two and identify the subject, verb, a better verb if needed and who needs to do what.<\/p>\n<p><strong>90 Medical conditions policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(1) The medical conditions policy of the education and care service must set out practices in relation to the following\u2014<\/p>\n<p>(a) the management of medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes or a diagnosis that a child is at risk of anaphylaxis;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject\/main idea: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verbs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Better verbs: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who needs to do what?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(b) informing the nominated supervisor and staff members of, and volunteers at, the service of practices in relation to managing those medical conditions;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject\/main idea: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verbs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Better verbs: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who needs to do what?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(c) the requirements arising if a child enrolled at the education and care service has a specific health care need, allergy or relevant medical condition, including\u2014<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject\/main idea: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verbs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Better verbs: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who needs to do what?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(i) requiring a parent of the child to provide a medical management plan for the child; The Room Leaders then taught their educators and together as a room they checked all children\u2019s files to ensure they complied with the Regulations, and their practice complied with the allergy\/condition on a poster in all children\u2019s rooms and prominent places to alert all staff, volunteers and students. It is necessary to get parents approval for this or the information must be displayed so it is not visible to other families and visitors to protect the child\u2019s privacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The child\u2019s medication is stored &lt; insert location &gt;\u00a0 and the child\u2019s Epipen\/asthma medication is accessible in the environment where educators are supervising the child.<\/li>\n<li>Children cannot attend the service without their prescribed medication.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Service Epipen and emergency asthma kit is stored in medication cabinet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The child\u2019s medication will be checked to ensure it is current and has not expired.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There is a notification of child at risk of anaphylaxis displayed in the front foyer with other prescribed information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The Nominated Supervisor will identify all children with specific health care needs, allergies or diagnosed medical conditions to all new educators, staff, volunteers and students, and ensure they know the location of the child\u2019s medical management plan, risk minimisation plan and medication.
